What's the Deal?

Which is better, local or organic? This question used to confuse me. But thanks to the good folks at the Lexicon of Sustainability, you can get a handle on this conundrum in under 3 minutes by watching this video.

Summary:

  • Many local farmers are Organic in all but name. They often lack the resources to get USDA certified.

  • The Organic label can be helpful, if you don't know your farmer. But if you DO know your farmer, then you already have the best certification possible: Face Certification, and the Organic label becomes less important.
