The Healer's Journey.

November 26, 2014 was my last day in the Disease Management Industry. It was hard to say goodbye to patients and partners. But it was really more "hello" than "goodbye". I left to come back in a different way.

What does that look like?

First, I've gone on sabbatical to finish up my Holistic Nutrition and Functional Medicine training. In the meantime, I plan to co-develop web properties like BioFlourish to expand the connection people have with their own health, because I believe the most untapped resource in medicine is the patient.

Eventually, I plan to engage individuals one-on-one in a way that reflects all my values as a healer:

  1. Biology over technology
  2. Biochemical individuality
  3. Patient-activated care
  4. Personalized lifestyle medicine

What I'm after is nothing short of Human Flourishing--all the aspects of Food, Movement, Sleep, Stress, and Connectedness that make us thrive as individuals and as a species in the only home we've ever known: Planet Earth.

I'm looking forward to Health Care. Aren't you? And I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you, my ever-growing list of readers. Without interested folks like you, such a project would be meaningless.

So thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing my vision. After years of body parts and fragmented health care, I think we're all going to have fun--and no small amount of joy--getting to know ourselves as whole people again.

We are staggeringly beautiful organisms of unexpected strength and fragility.

Sincerely yours,

Marc Wagner, MD

P.S. Maybe I won't have to leave health care to find health care after all. Check it out: Cleveland Clinic Gets Functional.
